The IRS is facing an enormous backlog of unprocessed returns, due in part to COVID-19 and other issues. By April 29, 2022, the IRS reported the paper return backlog had topped 18.5 million. One solution being urged by a group of Republican senators is for the IRS to adopt 2-D barcode technology. This would allow the fields on a scanned tax return to be automatically populated, rather than using manual line-by-line input. In a letter to IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig, ranking Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) admitted that this technology isn’t a “panacea” and will need some manual oversight. But “if professionally implemented, 2-D barcoding can effectively bridge the paper and digital worlds.”  Call or visit our website for more information!  www.mjscpa.com/
