“Paying taxes is not optional … it’s the law,” the IRS emphasizes in a new Tax Tip. Fortunately, there are several options for how to pay taxes. Some people get withholding in their paychecks while others make estimated payments through the year. Taxpayers who e-file can pay at no charge, through their bank accounts using electronic withdrawals. The IRS Direct Pay plan also allows free payment through a bank account, but only upon the taxpayer’s request. Other options include using a payment processer to pay by credit or debit card; making a cash payment at participating retail stores; or applying for an installment payment plan with the IRS.
