National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins released her “2020 Annual Report to Congress.” The report focuses on the challenges that taxpayers faced filing their tax returns and receiving refunds and Economic Impact Payments due to COVID-19. It also notes that a roughly 20% inflation-adjusted reduction in the IRS’s budget since 2010 has left the IRS with antiquated technology and inadequate staffing levels to meet taxpayers’ needs.
